We’re always looking to shine a light on new breweries and with St. Patrick’s Day falling in March, we fancied bringing in a Northern Irish brewer and we chose Spadetown. Never one to do things by half, we’ve gone for a ‘tap takeover’ type event and bought 3 pallets across the Irish Sea so we can feature a range of their beers.
Spadetown – the colloquial name for the brewery’s hometown of Lurgan in County Armagh, was founded by beer enthusiasts and friends who were passionate about investing in their local area. Patrick, an IT entrepreneur, and Marty, who had run a craft brewery when he worked overseas, had been mates since school and always envisaged running a business together.
They set up Spadetown Brewery in 2021, just outside the town centre and have been developing a range of popular beers for sale in local bars, in Belfast and in off licences across Northern Ireland. The brewery currently produces an IPA, a Pilsner, a lager, a new red ale called Ragin’ Red and the brand new Dark Cloud Stout.
The team have big plans for the operation and have recently invested another £80,000 in a brewery upgrade. The new equipment will be able to brew 2.3 million litres per annum while bringing the canning operation onsite reduces both costs and their carbon footprint. There are plans for a tap room and a coffee roasting facility soon too.
We hope you enjoy the beers we’ve chosen from Spadetown, it’s our first ever partnership with a Northern Irish brewery.
